Why Fall River is a great place for green HVAC systems

In an ambitious move towards a sustainable future, Fall River announced the successful completion of a comprehensive energy initiative in partnership with Ameresco back in 2011. The multiphase project comprised a potent combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy solutions, anchored by an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The heart of the initiative saw solar panels installed across several key locations in the city, including three local schools and the city's wastewater treatment plant. Coupled with this, energy-efficient measures such as replacing outdated light fixtures in two city schools and the Government Center were also executed.

The project anticipated significant environmental and financial benefits. The city is expected to save over $2.7 million in energy costs during the contract's lifespan, and lower its carbon emissions by an impressive 25.8 million pounds - the equivalent of taking 1306 cars off the road.

In addition, Fall River residents have been able to access a variety of incentives for solar panel installation. Federal tax credits, net metering agreements, Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs), rebates, and property tax exemptions are among the incentives available. In particular, the Federal Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit and the Inflation Reduction Act offer attractive tax credits, leading to a projected decrease in a household's carbon footprint by roughly 200 pounds of CO2 a year, which could accumulate to about 4,000 pounds in two decades.

Complementing these initiatives, Fall River is making electric vehicles more accessible for its residents, with 12 public charging stations installed within a 15km radius of the city. Two of these stations offer free charging, courtesy of the main network, ChargePoint.

The city's substantial investment in renewable energy initiatives, coupled with the encouraging incentives for residents, showcases a significant commitment to creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly community.
