Energy-efficient upgrades and improvements can make your home more comfortable and significantly reduce your energy bills—but they do come at a cost. Fortunately, all of the New England states offer energy efficiency rebates, low-interest financing, home energy audits, and other energy efficiency incentives to help with the expense. Here’s a breakdown of the energy programs available to you in 10 Eastern states:


Massachusetts - MassSave

The MassSave program offers energy efficiency incentives and home energy rebates through local Massachusetts utilities. They also offer free virtual home energy audits that assess your current energy use, help you develop a plan to make your home more energy efficient, and educate you on available home energy rebates and incentives.


Connecticut - Energize Connecticut

Energize Connecticut empowers Connecticut residents to make smart energy choices. In partnership with the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, the Connecticut Green Bank, and your local electric and gas utilities, Energize Connecticut offers energy efficiency rebates for a variety of upgrades and home energy audits through Home Energy Services.


New York - NYSERDA

NYSERDA offers a variety of home energy rebates programs and incentives that give NY residents the financial resources they need to make energy efficient upgrades. NYSERDA also provides information about energy efficiency programs through local gas and electric utility companies.


NJ - New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program offers financial incentives, programs, and services that help New Jersey residents, save energy, money, and the environment. They offer energy efficiency incentives for new home construction and partner with local utilities companies to provide home energy rebates for lighting, appliances, and more.  


Maryland - EmPOWER Maryland

EmPOWER Maryland offers a number of incentive programs through local utilities and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Programs include lighting and appliance rebates for homeowners and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, which includes home energy audits and 50% rebates for energy improvements like insulation and air sealing.


Maine - Efficiency Maine

Efficiency Maine offers programs and residential energy rebates for appliances, heating, lighting and other projects. Efficiency Maine offers home energy loans to help pay for energy upgrades. Maine homeowners can borrow up to $15,000 over 10 years with no fees and interest rates as low as 4.99% APR. Natural gas customers in Maine may be eligible for additional rebates.


New Hampshire - NHSaves

Through local utilities, NHSaves offers a wide variety of rebates for new, energy-efficient equipment, energy saving upgrades, and new construction that meets ENERGY STAR® standards. They also provide home energy audits through ENERGY STAR and low-interest financing.


Vermont - Efficiency Vermont

Efficiency Vermont offers Vermont residents rebates, low-interest financing options, tips & tools, and other programs for efficiency improvements. Efficiency Vermont will also connect you with a certified contractor for a home energy audit, and provide personal energy consultants to help you with energy-efficient renovations or construction projects.


Pennsylvania - FirstEnergy

Through FirstEnergy, Pennsylvania residential customers of Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power can take advantage of residential energy rebates on ENERGY STAR® certified appliances, HVAC system tune ups, for the purchase and installation of qualifying high-efficiency HVAC systems, and for the purchase of water heaters.


Rhode Island

Rhode Island’s energy efficiency programs offer homeowners and renters a variety of funding and financing options to support home energy improvements. The State of Rhode Island also provides free home energy assessments.
